One person was killed and nine others injured after a portion of an under-construction Bheja-Bakaur bridge in Bihar’s Supaul district collapsed on Friday.
Kaushal Kumar, the District Magistrate of Supaul, confirmed the development. He said that the injured persons were admitted to the Sadar hospital and rescue operations were underway at the crash spot.

Sources said that around 40 labourers were present at the place when a section of the bridge collapsed around 7.30 a.m.
The 10.2 km-long bridge was being built over the Kosi River to connect Madhubani and Supaul districts.
It is a project of the National Highway Authority of India which has given the charge for construction to two companies, Gammon India and TransRail Lighting Ltd. The total cost of the project is Rs 1199.58 crore.
Government to investigate the accident
The Bihar government is set to launch an investigation into the recent mishap involving the collapse of a section of the under construction Bheja-Bakaur bridge. Deputy Chief Minister and Road Construction Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, announced the initiative, emphasizing that those responsible would face consequences once the inquiry concludes.
Sinha said that a portion of the bridge being built over the Kosi river between Bheja and Bakaur, connecting Supaul to Madhubani, had collapsed, resulting in the tragic death of one laborer and injuries to several others. Expressing sorrow over the incident, he assured that immediate assistance would be provided to the injured, along with appropriate compensation.
The Deputy Chief Minister promised a thorough investigation into the bridge collapse, promising disciplinary action against any negligent officials, engineers, or the construction company involved.
“Under the governance of our double-engine government, corruption will not be tolerated, and the misappropriation of public funds will not go unpunished. If the investigation reveal any wrongdoing, strict legal measures will be taken against those accountable, including the company responsible.” he said.
