The Union Budget 2024-25 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted numerous projects and allocations aimed at promoting the development of Bihar. This comprehensive budget focuses on various sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, and rural development to boost the state’s growth.

Major Allocations and Projects for Bihar

Agriculture and Flood Management

– Irrigation and Flood Mitigation Projects: Bihar frequently suffers from floods, many originating from outside the country. The government will provide financial support for projects like the Kosi-Mechi intra-state link and 20 other ongoing and new schemes, including barrages and river pollution abatement, with an estimated cost of ₹11,500 crore.
– Survey and Investigation: Extensive surveys and investigations will be conducted for Kosi-related flood mitigation and irrigation projects to ensure effective implementation.

Infrastructure Development

– Road Connectivity Projects: Significant investments will be made in the development of road connectivity, including:
– Patna-Purnea Expressway
– Buxar-Bhagalpur Expressway
– Bodhgaya-Rajgir-Vaishali-Darbhanga Spurs
– Additional 2-lane bridge over the river Ganga at Buxar
– These projects aim to enhance transportation infrastructure in Bihar, with a total allocation of ₹26,000 crore.


Power Projects

– New Power Plant at Pirpainti: A new 2400 MW power plant will be established at Pirpainti with an investment of ₹21,400 crore. This initiative aims to address the energy needs of the state and support industrial growth.

Tourism Development

– Vishnupad and Mahabodhi Temple Corridors: The government will support the comprehensive development of the Vishnupad Temple Corridor and the Mahabodhi Temple Corridor, modeled on the successful Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor, to transform them into world-class pilgrim and tourist destinations.
– Rajgir Development: Rajgir, which holds immense religious significance, will undergo comprehensive development to enhance its tourism potential.
– Nalanda as a Tourist Centre: Efforts will be made to develop Nalanda as a tourist center and revive Nalanda University to its historic stature.

Support for Capital Investments

– Expedited Assistance for Bihar Government: The requests of the Bihar Government for external assistance from multilateral development banks will be expedited to support various development projects.
